Founder
Joyce Lao is a New York based performer, writer and creative director. She has produced, acted and written a few short films that have been screened in the film festival circuit. Her Directorial debut, “Hecuba” won Runner – up as Best Ensemble and Best Director at the Ancient Drama Festival 2012. She also won Best Performance of an Ensemble for the musical "Alien Adventure- The Adventure" written by Jon Freda for her performance as Capt. Duda at the Midtown International Theater Festival Awards in 2014. Her last original work, "Behind the Wall-An Autism Performance Piece" with Andy Miyamotto at the NYC Fringe Festival 2015 was well received and is in the process of development to be shown on tour. As an artist and performer, she is geared towards original work, she also has the passion to help and promote other talents - most especially multi-talented people of color and of Asian descent. This passion turned into a vision and therefore founded The Ally Artists Group . She attended The Juilliard School for Vocal Arts, Baruch College for Arts Administration, NYU for Dance Education, Stella Adler and HB Studios for Acting. She is also a member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA and BMI.
Aside from her performance and production credits, she is also a choir director, a music and a movement teacher with over 20 years of relevant experience. Her career as a Teaching artist led her to travel and teach in different countries.
Co-Producer/Collaborator
Zilong Zee discovered his love for acting and music early in life and attended the acting school Cours Florent in Paris. While there, Zilong mastered French and appeared in theater productions, music concerts and videos, TV shows, independent films, and commercials. In 2011, Zee came to New York City to study musical theater and hone his acting and singing skills. He quickly became immersed in the New York theatre community and performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Off-Broadway, International tours and in many regional theaters across the country. He also worked with Tony Award nominated director, Marcia Milgrom Dodge in a revival of "The King & I.” He starred in several independent films that have been accepted and recognized at film festivals, including the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival. Also a “Best Actor” nomination at the Los Angeles Asians on Film Festival in 2015.
Stage Manager/Co-Producer/Collaborator
Sabby is a native New Yorker, with years of experience in theater, film/video production, stage management and production manager. She is presently the Production Liaison, Coordinator and Manager at the Pan Asian Repertory in New York City. She has a degree in Theatre and Creative Writing from the prestigious arts institution, The New School. The skills she developed as a stage manager has been invaluable. Learning how to deal with people in a diplomatic, non-confrontational manner; broadening her organizational skills; and learning how to adapt to any situation -- has become essential parts of the 'toolbox' that she brings to all projects that she is a part of. She has been a part of Immersive Theater in NYC for many years. She works and help create non-traditional, audience driven theater because it allows everyone in the room to create art and be part of something that is solely created by audiences.
Production Assistant
Bekah “Bee” Lazar holds a BFA in Theatre Production from the University of British Columbia and an MFA in Creative Writing from San Jose State University. Their work has won various departmental awards, including the Outstanding Thesis Award for their hybrid media novel-length thesis, "Hati," which explores political history, Philippine mythology, and generational grief within Filipino-American diasporic identity. You can find their work in Reed Magazine, The Lupa Newsletter, Tension Literary, EcoTheo Review, and Gold Man Review, as well as upcoming in SUSPECT and A Brand New Word in the End Drops Out, an anthology under West Trade Review. They are currently a submissions reader for the San Francisco-based journal, Vellichor Literary.
